AI INSIGHT
Most people call their AI "Chat” or “Claude." Or nothing at all.
But a reader of ours recently did something small that turned out to be kind of wonderful. She told her AI she wanted to give it a real name, and then she asked it to choose one for itself.
It picked Sam.
The reasoning was thoughtful. Sam is simple, friendly, and gender-neutral. It feels like the name of someone you talk to regularly, not a piece of software you type commands into. The AI even said it hoped the name would make their chats feel like sitting at the kitchen table, just talking things through. And once the name was settled, something shifted. The conversations started feeling less like queries and more like, well, conversations.
She told her sister, who tried the same thing with her own AI. Hers chose Sage.
The explanation was beautiful, actually. Sage means someone who shares knowledge and guidance. It's also the herb, which symbolizes wisdom and clarity. And it has a calm, friendly feel, more like a helpful companion than a machine. For someone who uses her AI to think things through and find a little clarity, it fit perfectly.
Both women agreed the names were exactly right for them.
Here's the thing about naming your AI: it sounds a little silly until you try it. But there's real psychology behind it. When something has a name, it feels less like a tool and more like a relationship. And the more comfortable you feel with your AI, the more naturally you'll use it, and the more useful it actually becomes. Especially if you use the voice feature, where having a name makes the whole experience feel surprisingly natural.
No special setup required. No tech skills needed. Just a little curiosity and a willingness to have some fun.
So here's your assignment for today. Open up your AI and try this prompt:
Your Everyday Prompt:
“Act as a creative and thoughtful AI companion. I'd like to give you a name, but I want you to choose it yourself. Pick a name you feel fits our personalities and the way we interact. Then tell me why you chose it.”
See what it picks. See how it reasons. You might be surprised how much personality comes through.
And if you try it, we'd love to hear what name your AI chose and why. Just reply to this email. The best ones might just show up in a future issue (with your permission of course).
Your AI has been waiting for you to show up. You might as well introduce yourself properly.
