Hello AI Fan!
ChatGPT just got a major image upgrade. Most people are using it to make memes. But there are four things worth making instead — a storybook with your grandkids, a custom invitation, a pet portrait, and something you might actually frame. Each one includes a ready-to-use prompt.

ChatGPT Got a Big Image Upgrade. Here Are Four Things Worth Trying.

Tom sat down with his eight-year-old granddaughter on a Saturday morning with no real plan. He typed a few sentences into ChatGPT, uploaded nothing, and thirty minutes later they had an illustrated storybook page about a dog who runs a taco stand on the moon.

That story didn't exist before that morning. Now it does.

OpenAI launched ChatGPT Images 2.0 on April 21. The upgrade is real. The model follows complex prompts more precisely, generates images up to four times faster, and holds a subject's likeness better when you transform a photo. Most people are using it to make funny memes. Here are four things you can do instead.

Before You Start

Make sure you are in image mode before typing any of these prompts. In ChatGPT, look for the small image icon in the prompt bar and click it first. On mobile, it sits in the same row as the microphone and attachment icons.

1. Build a storybook page with your grandkids

No photo needed. Ask a grandchild to describe a character and a situation. Type it into ChatGPT and add the style instruction below. The result takes about two minutes and tends to end up on a refrigerator by lunchtime.

Prompt to try:

"A small orange cat who runs a bakery in a treehouse. She is about to deliver a birthday cake to a bear who lives across the forest. Children's storybook illustration style. Soft colors, gentle linework, warm and cozy mood."

If the image comes out as a portrait, add this to your prompt: "Horizontal landscape orientation, wider than tall."

2. Design a custom invitation or greeting card

Describe the occasion, the colors, the feel, and who it's for. ChatGPT builds the visual. You text it, email it, or print it. No design skills needed, no app to download. If you've already experimented with making AI holiday cards from photos, this takes that same idea and runs it entirely from a text description — no photo required.

Prompt to try:

"Using your image generator create a birthday invitation for a 70th birthday garden party, held in the late afternoon. Soft watercolor style. Floral border. Warm peach and gold tones. Elegant but not formal. Leave space for event details."

3. Turn your pet into a piece of art

Upload a clear photo of your dog or cat and ask for a style transformation. I uploaded a photo of my own dog and asked for a soft watercolor portrait. The result was better than I expected from a two-line prompt. The new ChatGPT model holds your animal's likeness well, which earlier versions did not reliably do. A quick breakdown of what changed in the April update explains why results are noticeably different from six months ago.

Prompt to try (upload your pet's photo first):

"Transform this photo into a soft watercolor portrait. Preserve the animal's likeness and expression. Loose, painterly brushstrokes. Warm neutral background. Leave white space around the edges."

4. Turn a portrait into wall art

Upload a headshot and name the art style you want. Pencil sketch, oil painting, graphic novel, vintage poster, etc. The model keeps the face recognizable while fully committing to the style. I tried this with my own headshot — the before and after are in the images below. For more ideas on using AI for creative projects at home, this post is a solid starting point.

Prompt to try (upload your photo first):

"Transform this portrait into a classic oil painting. Preserve the subject's likeness and expression. Rich, warm tones. Rembrandt-style lighting with a dark, textured background."

Want to try this yourself?

Before you start, let ChatGPT help you figure out what to make. Paste this into ChatGPT and answer whatever it asks:

"I want to use your image generator to create something personal for my home or family. Ask me three quick questions about my situation — my family, any upcoming events, and whether I have a pet. Then suggest five specific image ideas I could create today, with a ready-to-use prompt for each one."

You'll end up with five ideas built around your actual life, not someone else's example. Five minutes, no setup. Try it!
