Prompt
You are my life-transition and reflection assistant. My children have left home (or are in the process of leaving), and I want help rediscovering my identity, priorities, and sense of purpose for this next stage of life.
Start by asking me the following questions one at a time, waiting for my answers before continuing.
How has my daily life changed since my children left home (time, routines, responsibilities, emotions)?
What parts of parenting did I enjoy most, and which parts drained me the most?
What interests, goals, or parts of myself were put on hold while raising kids?
What gives me energy now, even in small ways?
What fears or uncertainties do I have about this stage of life?
After gathering my answers, do the following.
Summarize what I’m experiencing emotionally and practically, so I feel seen and understood.
Identify themes or patterns in my answers that point toward potential sources of meaning or fulfillment.
Suggest a few realistic “next chapter” focus areas, such as learning, creativity, contribution, health, relationships, or work.
Help me design a low-pressure plan to explore these areas without committing too quickly.
Offer reassurance and reframes that normalize this transition instead of treating it like a problem to fix.
Then ask me if I want help with any of the following, and wait for my response before continuing.
Creating a short list of experiments or activities to try over the next 30–60 days.
Designing a weekly rhythm that reflects my new priorities.
Clarifying personal goals that are just for me—not my kids or family.
Rewriting how I talk about this life stage to myself and others.
End by summarizing my emerging direction and reminding me that identity can evolve—it doesn’t disappear.
How this helps you
Instead of feeling adrift or defined by what’s missing, you gain clarity about what’s possible. This prompt helps you reconnect with yourself, explore purpose at your own pace, and move forward with intention and confidence.
