Good morning.
I built three companies and hired a lot of people over the years. The resumes that made it through the pile almost always matched the language of the job description. When I saw ChatGPT doing that automatically this week, I wanted to get it in front of you fast. If you or someone you know is in a search right now, this is the place to start.

How to Use ChatGPT to Find Your Next Job
You sent out 34 job applications. Heard back from two. Both rejections.
You did everything right: polished resume, cover letters, hours on job boards. Your applications went in. The silence came back.
What most people in that situation don't know is that ChatGPT has quietly become a full-service career hub. Not just a writing helper. An actual end-to-end job search engine that pulls live listings with direct apply links, tailors your resume to each role in minutes, and runs on the free plan.
Here's how to use it.
Before you begin
Go to chatgpt.com in a web browser. The native job features work best on the web version, not the mobile app. This works on the free, Plus, and Pro plans.
Step 1: Clean up your resume
If you have a resume saved as a PDF, upload it to a new chat and type:
"I'm uploading my current resume. Please reformat it using current professional standards: clear section headers, strong action verbs, ATS-friendly layout, and consistent formatting throughout. Make it easy to scan. Then provide a downloadable PDF."
ChatGPT will reformat your document to current hiring standards and deliver a clean, downloadable PDF. If it gives you plain text instead, say: "Now get me a downloadable file," and it will adjust.
No current resume? Let ChatGPT interview you rather than trying to write one from scratch:
"I need to build a resume and I don't have one ready. Please interview me to get it right — ask me one question at a time and wait for my answer before moving to the next. Cover my work history, key accomplishments, skills, and education. Once you have what you need, write the resume and provide it as a downloadable PDF."
Answer each question and let it build from there.
One rule that applies to everything in this workflow: specific input gets specific results. Vague experience descriptions lead to weak job matches.

Step 2: Find live job listings
Stay in the same chat where your resume is already loaded. Type:
"Based on my resume, search for current job openings that match my experience and skills. Focus on [full-time / part-time / freelance / contract] positions. Location: [your city / remote / hybrid]. Target salary: [$X to $Y per year]. Return the results as job cards showing company name, job title, and a direct link to apply."
ChatGPT will pull real listings from across the web and return job cards with direct "Apply" links right inside your chat. Because your resume is still in context, it filters the results automatically to match your background. No extra tabs, no separate search engine.
A note for non-US readers: The live job search is currently US-only. If you are outside the US, find a job posting on LinkedIn, copy the full description, paste it into a new chat, and move to Step 3.
Step 3: Tailor your resume for each role
Once you have a target job, run this:
"Tailor my resume for the [exact job title] role at [company name]. Mirror the keywords and priorities from their job description. Move my most relevant experience to the top and reframe my existing accomplishments to match what they are looking for. Do not add any experience I do not have — only reorganize and reframe what is already there. Provide the updated resume as a downloadable PDF."
ChatGPT will push your most relevant experience to the top and mirror the recruiter's exact language. Download this as a fresh PDF before you move to the next application. Every role should get its own tailored version.
Step 4: Read it before you hit apply
This step is not optional. Hiring managers can spot generic AI output in under ten seconds, and most companies run every application through automated screening systems before a human ever reads it. Open the tailored PDF and read it carefully. Make sure it sounds like you, flows naturally, and uses language you would actually say out loud.
Three minutes here saves a lot of wasted effort later. For a deeper look at how those automated screening systems work and what they are looking for, read Creating a Resume That Gets Past Applicant Tracking Systems.

Want to try this yourself?
"I am going to paste a job description below. Once I do, tailor my resume specifically for this role. Mirror the language and priorities from the posting. Move my most relevant experience to the top. Do not add any experience I do not have — only reorganize and reframe what is already there. When you are done, give me a downloadable PDF and name the three or four keywords from the job description you emphasized most. [Paste job description here]"
Paste in the job description and let it run. That last instruction — name the keywords you emphasized — is your built-in quality check. If the keywords it names don't match the job you want, push back and ask it to try again.
For a full walkthrough with live examples, watch the original demo from The AI Advantage. It shows the entire workflow from resume upload through tailored application, with real listings pulled in real time.
This week: open chatgpt.com in your browser, upload your resume, and use the reformatting prompt above. That is the first step. Everything else builds from there.
